Acylex Suspension Ingredients and Usage
Acylex Suspension contains Acyclovir at a strength of 200mg per 5ml of oral liquid. Acyclovir is a guanosine nucleoside analogue and belongs to the systemic antiviral class of medicines. Doctors prescribe Acylex Suspension to treat several viral infections caused by the herpes family of viruses.
Acylex Suspension treats herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections including genital herpes, cold sores, and mucocutaneous lesions. It also treats varicella zoster virus infections such as chickenpox in children and shingles (herpes zoster) in adults.
The liquid suspension is particularly useful for paediatric patients, elderly individuals, and adults who have difficulty swallowing tablets. A measuring cup or oral syringe ensures accurate dosing for every patient.
How Does Acylex Suspension Work?
Acylex Suspension delivers acyclovir into the bloodstream after oral absorption from the gastrointestinal tract. The drug then reaches cells infected by herpes simplex virus or varicella zoster virus throughout the body. Viral thymidine kinase enzymes inside these infected cells convert acyclovir into acyclovir monophosphate.
Cellular kinases then phosphorylate it further into the active form, acyclovir triphosphate. This active form inhibits viral DNA polymerase, the enzyme the virus needs to replicate its genetic material.
Acyclovir triphosphate also incorporates into the growing viral DNA chain and terminates further elongation. This selective action stops viral multiplication in infected cells while leaving healthy human cells unharmed.

Warnings
Do not take Acylex Suspension if you are allergic to acyclovir, valacyclovir, or any other ingredient in the formulation.
Drink plenty of water during treatment to maintain adequate hydration and protect kidney function.
Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, as a lower dose of Acylex Suspension may be required.
Elderly patients face a higher risk of kidney and neurological side effects and may need dose adjustment.
Use caution if you take other nephrotoxic medicines such as aminoglycosides, ciclosporin, or tenofovir.
Probenecid can raise acyclovir blood levels and may increase the risk of side effects.
Consult your doctor before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, even though acyclovir has a relatively reassuring safety profile.
Acylex Suspension reduces symptoms and viral shedding but does not eradicate herpes virus from the body.
Continue treatment for the full prescribed duration, even if symptoms improve before the course ends.
Stop treatment and seek medical advice if severe rash, breathing difficulty, or signs of allergic reaction develop.
Acylex Suspension Storage Conditions
Store Acylex Suspension at a temperature below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the bottle tightly closed after each use and shake well before measuring a dose.
